The first catches are in, and by the afternoon the storm had reached Lake Balaton.
At noon on Sunday, the 12th International Balaton Carp Cup officially got underway. The teams were still able to place their final rigs before the arriving weather front, but during the afternoon the previously forecast strong winds reached Lake Balaton, and with them first the first-degree, then the second-degree storm warning came into effect.

The organisers are once again asking all teams to closely monitor the storm warning signals throughout the night and to act in full accordance with the safety regulations in every situation. During the competition, following the rules is of outstanding importance not only from a sporting perspective, but also for safety reasons.
The first catches did not take long to arrive either. The first fish of the 12th IBCC was caught by Team SZESZ Pelsoholic in the Vampire sector at Balatonudvari Strand. Not long afterwards, another notable catch was reported: Team CarpKteam checked in with a 19.17 kg fish in the Trakker sector, at Bárdos utca in Balatonmáriafürdő — already a significant result on the very first day of the competition.

Ignoring the storm warnings, however, also had consequences: two teams were suspended from the competition for 24 hours due to violations of the safety regulations. This clearly shows that during this challenge on Lake Balaton, not only the catches matter, but disciplined and responsible competition plays a decisive role as well.

Based on the events of the first day, it is already clear that we are facing an intense competition full of twists and turns. In the coming hours and days, not only the fish, but also the weather may become a major factor in shaping the results.
We wish all teams a safe competition!
